Announcing the tipón Coaching Program

"Your future is enhanced by the habits you repeat, not the goals you set." — James Clear

Developing our members is key to sustaining growth and future leadership across the tipón Federation. To further this mission across our group of cooperatives, we are proud to officially launch the tipón Coaching Program, an initiative designed to help high-potential members understand the purpose of their contributions.

The core philosophy of this program begins with Leading Self as the foundation of purpose, ultimately empowering our members to lead others and our cultures. At the heart of this initiative, dedicated internal coaches will hold one-on-one sessions with their assigned coachees at least once a month.

The program officially launched during the Coachee Interest Check Session on July 8 at Katipon Hall. During the event, Michael V. Gonzalez, President and General Manager, delivered a keynote address highlighting the critical difference between raw potential and professional habits.

He shared the story of Ana Lea, a highly talented young engineer who entered the workforce carrying personal "baggage"—including a sense of entitlement and a habit of arriving late due to insomnia. At the time, there was no formal mentoring program in place, and it took a direct, difficult intervention from leadership to "wake her up" to her responsibilities. Today, Ana Lea is a highly successful practicing engineer in Australia.

The tipón Coaching Program is designed to provide that same vital guidance, but within a structured, supportive environment. The goal is to help members navigate their own professional development and mold their habits long before they run into trouble.

The Value Exchange: A Collaborative Partnership

The success of this program relies on a collaborative contract between the coach and the coachee:

  • The Coach's Role: Coaches act as facilitators, challengers, and enablers. They are tasked with providing a brave and safe space for exploration.
  • The Coachee's Role: Coachees serve as the drivers, owners, and vulnerable experimenters. Growth will require their active openness, commitment, and action.

A Purposeful Coachee Selection Process

The selection of the coachees was highly intentional and based strictly on their potential to grow. To identify the right candidates for this pilot run, the program utilized a rigorous selection process that included:

  • Talent Mapping & Assessment: Evaluating potential through comprehensive talent mapping and Talegent results, which measure both cognitive abilities and competencies.
  • Leadership Validation: Official nomination and validation by both the candidate's Group Head (GH) and Immediate Head (IH).
  • Commitment Check: An interest check and final coachee sign-off to confirm their personal interest and absolute commitment to participating in the program.

An Elite Roster of Internal Coaches

To ensure the highest level of mentorship, our internal coaches were carefully vetted and selected based on rigorous criteria:

  • Leadership Experience: Each coach holds a manager-level role or higher with a minimum of 3 years of direct leadership experience.
  • Exceptional Performance: Coaches have consistently achieved "Exceptional" performance ratings over the last two consecutive quarters.
  • Team Validated: They have received the highest behavioral survey ratings from their peers, direct reports, and immediate heads.
  • Cognitive Agility & EQ: Each coach possesses top-tier cognitive ability, competency scores, and high Emotional Intelligence scores (verified by the Talegent Assessment), ensuring they lead with both logic and empathy.

The tipón Coaching Program is more than just a professional milestone; it is a shared commitment to ensuring every member has the support they need to go further, grow deeper in their purpose, and glow as future leaders within our federation. As we embark on this exciting new chapter, we encourage all participants to embrace the journey ahead fully.
